Becks was established by Ernest Beck as a timber merchant at the Dowling Street site in Launceston in 1932. Traditionally a strong trade business, in particular in plumbing and electrical, the Becks business has grown extensively over its 80-year history and now proudly services both DIY and trade customers across the north and north west of Tasmania. In the 1970s and 1980s the family purchased hardware businesses at Deloraine and Scottsdale. Today it operates from nine locations, including hardware and trade stores in Deloraine, Scottsdale, Ulverstone, Launceston, Devonport, Port Sorrell and Burnie, and operates one of the largest Frame & Truss sites in Tasmania.
