Rethink Waste encourages our community to rethink what we do with our waste to improve our collective efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle. At Rethink Waste, we know that by working together we can significantly reduce the amount of waste ending up as landfill, thereby reducing the impact of waste on the environment. Rethink Waste is a statewide initiative involving the three regional waste management groups – the Cradle Coast Waste Management Group, the Northern Tasmanian Waste Management Group and Waste Strategy South. The groups were established by their local member councils to coordinate waste management services, develop and implement waste management and recycling projects, and raise awareness of best practice waste and recycling. The groups are supported by member Council contributions and/or using funds raised through a voluntary waste levy on all waste disposed to landfill in Tasmania. All three groups use the waste management hierarchy to guide their strategies and activities.
